Deana Johnson: The Original Trailblazer of BYF Sports

DeanaBYFSports

Before we had full girls’ teams, before the expansion, and before the championship banners — there was Deana Johnson. A name that holds weight in the history of BYF Sports. She was not just a player — she was the first young lady to ever participate in what began as a boys-only program. Deana didn’t wait for a seat at the table. She built her own.

🏀 Breaking Barriers with Brilliance

When Deana joined BYF Sports, we didn’t have a girls’ team yet — but that didn’t stop her. She showed up every day ready to work, to learn, and to lead. As a player, manager, videographer, and tutor, she made herself indispensable to the program.

It wasn’t long before her presence inspired change — so much so that we formed a team just for her. That’s the kind of impact Deana had, even as a young girl. She carved out her lane and paved the way for every girl who came after.

🎓 Gifted & Driven

Deana was never just talented on the court — she was a brilliant academic mind. A proud graduate of Tolleston’s Gifted & Talented program, she later went on to attend a prestigious private boarding school, graduating with honors and setting the tone for her professional excellence.

🌍 From Global HR Leader to Entrepreneur

After earning her degree, Deana took her talents into the corporate world, eventually becoming Head of HR for a major construction company — a role that took her across the United States, Germany, China, and beyond. She wasn’t just filling jobs — she was building workforces from the ground up.

Her ability to lead teams, connect with people, and solve complex problems made her a rising star in her industry.

🏡 Building Her Legacy

While managing her demanding full-time career, Deana didn’t stop there. She tapped into her entrepreneurial spirit and began investing in real estate. Today, she owns over 8 properties and runs her own property management company — all while mentoring others who want to follow in her footsteps.

Recently, she even invited me to speak at a summit for first-time realtors, bringing things full circle. From the girl who asked to be part of our boys’ team — to the woman now creating spaces and opportunities for others — Deana continues to inspire.

🙌 BYF’s First Lady of Legacy

Deana, you were the blueprint — the first girl to believe in the vision before it had a name. You didn’t wait for the door to open — you built your own room, and now you own the building.

We are beyond proud of your journey. You’ve set an example of excellence, resilience, leadership, and legacy.

Congratulations on everything you’ve built — and everything that’s still ahead. The BYF Sports family will always stand behind you.

With gratitude and admiration,
Coach & Your BYF Family
