Taya Davis: A Promise Kept, A Dream Fulfilled

At BYF Sports, every player has a story—but some journeys carry a deeper meaning. Taya Davis’s path is one that represents not only talent and perseverance, but also trust, legacy, and a promise that began with a coach and a friend.
Taya was more than just a gifted athlete—she was a young woman of focus, respect, and determination. During a time of unimaginable loss, we made a promise. When we lost Coach Williams—a beloved coach, mentor, and close friend of mine—during COVID, he made one final request: “Take care of my player, Taya.”

And I took that promise to heart.
We started by placing Taya at Garden City Community College, where she continued to grow her game and her leadership. From there, she earned her way to Fordham University, an incredible academic institution where she not only represented on the court but also graduated, proving that her success extended far beyond basketball.
What made Taya stand out wasn’t just her incredible talent—and she was truly one of the most gifted players I’ve had the pleasure of working with—it was her humility and her trust. I never had to convince Taya to listen. She made it a point to call me every time a decision needed to be made, whether it was about basketball, school, or life. That kind of respect and maturity is rare, and it speaks volumes about the woman she has become.
Today, we celebrate not just her graduation from Fordham, but the journey that led her there—the sacrifices, the guidance, the legacy of Coach Williams, and Taya’s unwavering belief in herself and those who supported her.
Taya, you kept your focus, honored every piece of guidance, and turned potential into achievement. You’ve made your BYF family—and Coach Williams—proud beyond words.
Congratulations, Taya. This is just the beginning.
