Dejah Weathersby: From BYF Sports to the NFL — A Trailblazer on and off the Court
At BYF Sports, we pride ourselves on developing well-rounded leaders—individuals who not only succeed in athletics but go on to break barriers in whatever field they choose. Today, we are honored to celebrate one of our own: Dejah Weathersby, a standout alum who has gone from the hardwood to making power moves in the professional sports world.
Dejah’s journey with BYF began in the 8th grade, and from day one, she displayed drive, discipline, and a natural leadership presence. She was a fierce competitor on the court, but what truly stood out was her maturity, her coachability, and her vision beyond the game.
After a successful playing career, Dejah began building her resume on the sidelines—first as an assistant coach at Kankakee Community College, the same school from which she graduated and where she helped guide young athletes through the very journey she once took. Her impact there was immediate, and it was clear she was just getting started.
Her commitment to growth and education led her to Northern Illinois University (NIU), where she recently earned her Master’s Degree while serving as a graduate assistant for the NIU Women’s Basketball Team. Balancing grad school and coaching at the Division I level is no easy feat—but Dejah handled it with the same poise and dedication she showed from her earliest days at BYF.
Now, Dejah is stepping into a historic new chapter—joining the Chicago Bears organization. Yes, the NFL. Her transition from basketball to the professional football world is not just impressive—it’s groundbreaking. Dejah continues to shatter ceilings and redefine what it means to be a woman in sports leadership.
Her journey is a testament to what happens when you mix hard work, faith, and the right support system. Dejah never stopped pushing forward, and we couldn’t be more proud to have played a role in her development.
