Aleena Mongerie: A Story of Strength, Second Chances & Stepping into Her Power

At BYF Sports, we don’t just help athletes find teams — we help them find belonging, direction, and purpose. And Aleena Mongerie’s journey is a beautiful reminder that sometimes the right path isn’t the first one — but the one you fight for.
🏀 A BYF Athlete Since Middle School
Aleen has been part of the BYF family since middle school, where she quickly stood out for her heart, discipline, and team-first mindset. Even at a young age, she brought a quiet determination that showed us she wasn’t just playing the game — she was growing through it.
Her time with BYF gave her a strong foundation, and we always knew she had the drive to push forward, even when the road got tough.
🎓 Finding the Right Fit
After high school, Aleen initially attended a college in West Virginia — but quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit. She was talented and motivated, but the environment didn’t match her values or vision. Rather than settle, Aleena made a bold and brave decision: she reached out, along with her mother, asked for guidance, and took control of her future.
🐎 A New Chapter at Kentucky State University
With support from BYF, Aleen found her second home at Kentucky State University, an HBCU with a strong sense of culture, community, and pride. We were proud to help place her in a program that valued her not only as a player but as a young woman with potential beyond the court.
At Kentucky State, Aleen thrived — academically, socially, and athletically. She reclaimed her power and turned what could’ve been a setback into a major comeback.
💬 Why We’re So Proud
Aleen’s story is one of resilience, trust, and transformation. She didn’t just go through the motions — she made intentional moves to realign her future with her values. That’s courage. That’s growth. That’s what BYF is all about. She will be a future nurse!
